Principal's Message

August 2016

Dear Marengo Families,

It is with great pleasure and excitement that I begin the 2016-17 school year as the new principal of Marengo Elementary!  It was so nice to meet some of you when I visited in May, and I look forward to getting to know each of you as we work together to serve our Marengo students.  You will find that I am very supportive of all aspects of the school community, and I believe that collaboration is the best way to ensure student success. Marengo’s reputation for excellence is certainly the result of its talented teaching staff, involved parents, dedicated support staff and amazing students.  I am so privileged to have made my way to SPUSD!

As I begin this new chapter in my educational career, I would like to share a bit about myself.  For the past 19 years, I worked for the San Gabriel Unified School District.  As a product of San Gabriel schools, I was extremely fortunate to support the students in my home district.  I began as an instructional aide for the special education department, and eventually taught Kindergarten, 3rd and 4th grades.  While working on my administrative credential, I was a Teacher on Special Assignment for the Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment Program.  For the last 7 years, I have served as the principal of Coolidge Elementary School.  While my decision to leave San Gabriel required much thought and reflection, I was ready for the new challenges, relationships and educational practices that SPUSD provides.  I am fortunate to live locally with my husband and our family of furry kids.

It is going to be an exciting school year at Marengo as the teachers continue their implementation of Cognitively Guided Instruction and Project Based Learning.  A group of teachers are in the process of piloting new English Language Arts curriculum to determine which program will best serve our students.  Teachers will also continue their focus on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports as a means to provide students with clear and positive behavior expectations.  Our Mandarin Dual Immersion Program will be in its first year at the Kindergarten level.  I am so thrilled about all of the opportunities that are being offered to support our students’ academic, social and emotional growth.

Please let me know if you would like to discuss any concerns, suggestions, or ideas. My door is always open and I welcome your input.

Go Marengo Lions!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Patricia Cheadle
